Autumn arrives in a blaze of vibrant colors, fulfilling its seasonal role as the end of the Northern Hemisphere’s warm and fertile period.
It is a time of russet hues both vibrant and austere caught by the rays of the season’s subdued sunlight. As the days grow shorter the deepening shadows presage the season’s bittersweet amalgam of warm days and cold nights.
It is a season bountiful with harvest.

Small Works
Beneath the Surface

What do we do when we create art that probes beneath the surface? And what surface are talking about? The ground? The ocean? The furniture in our house? Our mind? We might be thinking of what lies beneath the surface of someone’s words or actions. Yes, they are smiling. But are they happy?
Artworks that express this engagement of the artist’s “surface” (canvas, photograph, artifact) with his or her dynamic world of impulse, imagination and dream. Our Small Works exhibits feature affordable art 12 inches or smaller.

Art that explores and highlights the seasonal passage through the year’s darkest days .
Winter emerges out of the cool fall air, beckoning our journey through its very narrow passage. All that was begun in the year before, winter now squeezes into a mesh of fading memories. We are slowed, cooled and even silenced by the austerity of change as fast away the old year passes. Art that gives us winter’s chill might also point the way to the New Year’s fresh beginning. As something is lost, something is also and inevitably gained.
